This is a dramatic update to a kitchen project that had been previously done 8 years ago. Now that the owners’ two sons were teenagers, they wanted to be able to use their kitchen as more of a family gathering space. A spare room was eliminated to build a mudroom, separate home office and powder room. Rearranging the first floor layout gave them a spacious eat-in kitchen with a family room simply by moving the dining room into what was a previously unused small formal living room. The focal point of the room is the custom banquette attached to the island. Made from the same material as the walnut cabinets, the banquette and table were custom made by the cabinet maker with a matching walnut insert in the middle of the Pyrolave table top. Other features in the include a Viking range in a plum color, the island countertop is Wild Chianti granite with the surrounding countertops in Pyrolave countertop from France.
