The rise in popularity of man-made kitchen countertops

The trend towards man-made countertops is here to stay. Quartz is a popular choice these days and for good reason – it is non-porous (no sealant needed and it’s naturally resistant to bacteria and mold), extremely durable and easy to maintain. Quartz’s popularity has flourished recently due to advances in the man-made material’s aesthetic. In the past, quartz was only available as a solid color or flecked, but recent improvements allow quartz to be made with more organic variations (think marble-like movement and veins!) that closely resemble natural stone. Our clients love how this more natural appearance enhances the look and feel of their kitchen, while keeping it incredibly practical.
Quartz countertops also have numerous environmental benefits. Quartz is made from pieces of waste stone and therefore doesn’t require slabs to be mined and shipped all over the world. Since quartz is the most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust, there are no concerns about over-using it. Quartz is also considered “greenguard approved,” which is a certification given to products that don’t emit any gas or harmful chemicals into the home, and it can often earn you LEED points!
Another man-made countertop choice that’s gaining traction is sintered stone, where minerals are exposed to extremely high temperature and pressure, creating an incredibly strong and durable surface. In fact, it is so resistant to heat, abrasions and scratches that you can chop vegetables or place a hot pot right on top of it!  It has a very uniform and consistent look, making it a popular choice for modern kitchens.
