The owner of this classic Nantucket cottage didn’t want a standard, all-white kitchen. The resulting space is a warm mix of bleached white oak base cabinetry to show grain and texture, with the upper wall units painted white for subtle contrast. The statement hood is blackened stainless steel whose tones are matched in the decorative matte black hardware. The white oak island’s 2″ mitered stone countertop echoes the metal with the blackened stainless steel boots on its legs.
Anchored by a polished nickel pot filler, a playful grey and blue circular tile backsplash adds a touch of whimsy over the Sub Zero Wolf 48″ dual fuel range. Elevated touches throughout include a pull-out drawer for cooking oils and spices, and a hutch to display decorative serving pieces, which also provides stylish storage as one transitions to the dining room. A beverage bar with retractable doors was added off the kitchen, with oak finish on the interiors and matte black hardware to match the aesthetic.
A major pivot during the transition, the decision was made to wall off a secondary passage to the mudroom located to the right of the hood, adding significant counterspace and cabinetry and transforming it into an ideal U-shape.
