The owners of this kitchen renovation were thoughtful and open-minded. DEANE encouraged the removal of a wall separating the existing kitchen and dining room and extended the footprint of the back of the house by an additional 6 feet. This created a large space to incorporate a kitchen with a built-in banquette and bar. The existing dining room was relocated to a new addition adjacent to the kitchen.
The introduction of the ceiling beams was initially out of necessity due to a new 24’ structural steel beam supporting the 6-foot addition. This necessity allowed the homeowner to introduce two, white oak box beams with a scalloped texture. To add a subtle contrast to the organic beams, white shiplap paneling was added to the ceiling and set the tone for the rest of the surrounding finishes.
The kitchen cabinetry embraced the bleached white oak and white paint finishes from the ceiling treatments to maintain the warmth and layered organic feel. The introduction of a blackened stainless-steel hood, faucets, and bar cabinetry added a sophisticated industrial vibe. At the request of the owner who is an avid home chef, the working side of the island features an oiled end-grained walnut countertop with a Galley prep sink and Wolf 15-inch induction cooktop at each end. The walnut countertop overlaps the Macchia Vecchia marble countertop, accommodating three island stools for socializing and eating. A second Galley workstation sits in front of the expansive casement window.
The client’s cooking expertise deserved an arsenal of appliances. Centered on the room is a 48″ Wolf dual fuel range with 4 burners, griddle, and grill options with a custom sloped blackened stainless-steel hood acting as the focal point. Adjacent is a tower featuring a a steam oven, a vacuum sealer, and convection oven. Twin column 36” Sub Zero refrigerator and 30” freezer are paneled with vertical white oak boards.
Additional design elements included Moroccan zellige tile backsplash, floating shelves with LED lighting, flush outlet covers, appliance garage, white bronze decorative hardware and black-framed island stool with ribbed leather upholstered cushions to complete this dream kitchen renovation.
