This homeowner had a traditional white kitchen and wanted to modernize with a sleek update. DEANE selected wire-brushed Rift Oak cabinets and stainless steel hardware and legs on the island along with a custom hood to give it an industrial feel while still feeling appropriate in a suburban setting. At first glance, the kitchen appears simple, but there are many details that make for an interesting finished product. The transition took the cabinetry from a raised panel door to a recessed Shaker panel. The island features beveled corner door edges with lots of great details. The countertops are also floated above the island cabinetry. Island is a Calcutta marble, 2″ mitered countertop, and the perimeter cabinets are a grey caesarstone. The cooktop backsplash is a solid slab of marble and mirrors the materials used for the island. There is also a modern dish pantry hidden behind frosted glass sliding panels and a high gloss lacquer interior and framed in the wire brush. The designer’s favorite detail is the cove recess on the ceiling above the island which is illuminated for dramatic effect.
