Golden Hour

These empty nesters came to DEANE to renovate the kitchen of their waterfront home into a modern yet warm space. Their design mandate was clear – it needed to be minimalist and sleek with no hardware, but still feel light, bright, organic, and welcoming.

Calacatta Macchia Vecchia Marble with bold gold veining was selected for the slab backsplash, as well as the countertops and island, both featuring waterfall edges. The overlay slab cabinetry is a rift white oak with custom wire brushing, with the uppers using an extended-length door to take the place of pulls, and the lowers opening on push. The refrigerator, refrigerated drawers, and dishwasher were paneled to create a seamless look, with only the double ovens exposed.

The island, with ample seating for four on one side, features a 4′ Galley sink and matte stainless steel faucet on the other, along with under-sink pull-out storage for the accessories and lower cabinetry.

The custom box hood achieved its symmetry as the focal point over the island when a window was removed to realign the wall, and is the designer’s favorite feature of the project.

The adjoining dining room features a bar that also has rift white oak cabinetry but is stained dark for added drama.  The marble countertops feature a waved pattern that is smooth to the touch. Two undercounter Sub-Zero wine units are nestled under the marble countertops, and a cabinetry tower sitting above with retractable doors that can be left open to display stemware, accessories, and serving dishes, or closed for elegant storage. The decision was made to not include any upper cabinetry, as the client collects various art pieces and wanted to use the space for display.
