This client initially contacted DEANE with the intent to refinish her cabinets, but quickly came to the conclusion she was ready to update her entire kitchen. The new design took a stained pine, distressed painted kitchen to a streamlined, transitional chef’s kitchen with modern metalwork for the custom hood and open shelving unit adding quiet style and flare. The waterfall edge quartzite island has a Julien prep sink, with the dishwasher and steam oven readily accessible. DEANE even incorporated the owner’s well-loved Viking range into the design. The backsplash features handmade, ceramic tile with a beveled edge in a stacked formation, while the countertops are Tahiti quartzite. The perimeter overlay cabinets are painted white with brushed nickel hardware, and the island is Stonington Gray. So as to not detract from the backsplash, the electrical outlets are hidden underneath the upper cabinetry, and where necessary, were recessed within the stone to eliminate the decorative plates. The desk is designed with a Claris glass backsplash that is not only magnetic but serves as a dry erase board. The butler’s pantry functions as a ‘breakfast bar’ and has a contemporary, slab-style door and LED linear recessed lighting in the open shelving.
