Inspiration came from a vintage café and the color palette of black and white, accented by pops of red, lends the space an old world elegance. Dominating the back wall is a Lacanche Sully 2200 Range, handcrafted in France, and a beloved addition for these serious cooks. The stove’s custom 8’ hood, decorated in stainless steel and unlacquered brass, adds to the timeless appeal.
The original kitchen was extended by four feet and the long rectangular island was replaced with two smaller islands, allowing ease of movement throughout. A round walnut table is flanked by red-leather chairs on one side and a custom-built banquette on the other, decorated in Belgian linen with a quote from French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre. The new butler’s pantry adds storage and a bit of glamour with a tin ceiling, marble mosaic floor and leaded mirror doors.
