Finally Forever
When a kitchen designer and an accomplished cook come together to design the kitchen of their dreams, the result is sure to be extraordinary. Peter and Julia Deane created a warm, inviting space that seamlessly blends aesthetics and functionality.
Peter is a third-generation kitchen designer and owner of DEANE, Inc., a custom cabinetry design firm based in Stamford, Connecticut. Julia is a cook, and she owns and operates Culinary Works, which offers hands-on cooking classes at the DEANE, Inc. showroom.
The Deanes bought their Connecticut house in 2007 and did some initial updates: They replaced countertops and installed new Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, but nothing major. “We said to ourselves that we were going to redo the kitchen someday, and then, well, we got three kids through college” Peter says with a laugh.
Fast forward 17 years, Peter and Julia found themselves in a position to start working on the kitchen they had been talking about. Peter said that he treated his project like he would for any other client. “Like most other people, we talked about what we wanted for a long time,” he says. “Then we sat down and went through the process that I go through with my clients: We wrote down our objectives, we asked ourselves what we wanted out of our kitchen, how we planned on using our space, and 100 other questions in between.”
